SAG Awards Red Carpet

In case you didn't know, last night the Screen Actors Guild Awards were on! These awards are often very different from the Golden Globe, both in the red carpet fashions and award winners. There were tons of dresses I loved last night, with only a few that didn't do it for me.

Red Carpet Ready!

There were plenty of glamorous looks on the red carpet tonight! If you want to re-create them, Temptalia is sharing how each star got her show-stopping look. Here are some of my faves from the night:

“January’s look was all about strength – there was nothing demure about it! I wanted to go for a super strong brow, and a high gloss red lip.  90′s supermodel meets old Hollywood glamour!” — Rachel Goodwin

Makeup: “The makeup was simple with two strong elements.  I prepped her skin with CHANEL Sublimage Concentrate. I then sculpted her cheeks with CHANEL Bronzing Makeup Base.  On her lids, I used a wash of champagne coloured shadow, CHANEL Soft Touch Eyeshadow in Liberty.  I created a strong, bold defined brow with the CHANEL Perfect Brows palette, and applied two coats of CHANEL Inimitable Intense Mascara in Noir.  Finally, I knew I wanted to go for a glossy red lip as opposed to a matte red, to keep the look fresh and not too retro.  I used an amazing red gloss, CHANEL Rouge Allure Extrait de Gloss in Excess, to complete January’s strong red carpet look.”

NARS worked with celebrity makeup artist Vanessa Scali to create Mad Men’s Christina Hendricks’ exuberant look for the 68th annual Golden Globe Awards. “I had this vision of a big, doe-eyed, lashy look from the late 70s and early 80s. To keep it modern, I kept the skin dewy with shimmering eyes and added a pop of matte texture on the lips,” said Vanessa
Face:  PRO-PRIME Multi Protect Primer With SPF, Sheer Glow Foundation, Copacabana Illuminator, Desire Blush
Eyes:  Calanque Trio Eyeshadow, Hollywoodland Soft Touch Shadow Pencil, Nuits Blanches Eyeliner Stylo, Larger Than Life Volumizing Mascara
Lips: Vesuvio Pure Matte Lipstick

NARS worked with celebrity makeup artist Spencer Barnes to create presenter Olivia Wilde’s glowing look for the 68th annual Golden Globe Awards.
“Olivia’s look was inspired by images she collected of what she refers to as ‘the French girl.’  I wanted her skin to be fresh and clean with eyes that extended outward.  Touches of rose gold and sheer pink-veiled lips completed her youthful coquette-ish look,” Spencer said.
Face:  Sheer Glow Foundation, PRO-PRIME Multi Protect Primer With SPF, Copacabana Illuminator, Amour Blush
Eyes: PRO-PRIME Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base, Nouveau Monde Duo Eyeshadow, Hollywoodland Soft Touch Shadow Pencil, Mambo Eyeliner Pencil, Larger Than Life Lengthening Mascara
Lips:  Fantasia Lipliner Pencil, Madere Pure Matte Lipstick, Frivolous Velvet Gloss Lip Pencil
Julia had an elegant, long black gown so we wanted the beauty look to be sophisticated and sexy, but also to keep it fresh since the red carpet is during the daytime.

We wanted her skin to be luminous and glowing so I used COVERGIRL NatureLuxe Silk Foundation for a luxurious flawless finish and then used a coral shimmer blush to give her a sunkissed glow.On the eyes I created a light smoky eye by lining the top and bottom with COVERGIRL LiquiLineBlast in Silver Spark and applying a dark matte taupe eye shadow. I finished the eyes with two coats of COVERGIRL LashBlast Fusion. On her lips we wanted to create a deep berry pop of color so I used COVERGIRL Lip Perfection in Euphoria.

New Year, New Start

So, we're one week into the new year. How many resolutions have been broken?? I've been doing okay, but not as well as I should! I didn't make many resolutions, but rather 'lifestyle changes' that I'd like to accomplish over the next year. Here are a few:

*Save money. While I need to pad the savings account, I want to save money to do more worthwhile things in my remaining months here in Denver. Go to a fabulous restaurant downtown, check out a play or visit an exhibit at the art museum, get dressed up for a night at a martini lounge...you know, the fun things.

*Get in shape. This is a given. Need some motivation?? Just shop for a bathing suit at Victoria's Secret. Browsing the bathing suits really showed me I have a lot of work to do.

*Cook better. I love watching Food Network, reading though my food magazines or checking out websites like this one, The Pioneer Woman, to get ideas for cooking. I want to cook these delicious meals and eat better in the process. No more junk food for me!

Those are the big ones for me. By working on them, I'll be working on all areas of my life for the better. What kind of things are you working on to improve this year?

Scarf Ideas

I love the look of scarves on others, but as soon as I have one for myself I'm at a loss of what to do with it except sling it around my neck. My favorite beauty guru, Michelle Phan, uploaded a new video 7 Ways to Wear a Scarf on YouTube and it gave me so many amazing ideas, I thought I'd share!

So glad that...

Finals are almost over. I've been a professional student for quite a while now, but I have to say this was hands down one of the worst semesters I've ever had! It seems like every teacher had something wrong with them (professionally), and  all I can say is I'm glad it's over! Whew. Now for a month long break before the 5 class schedule begins again.

I've also been having one of those (quarterly, it seems) mind awakenings. Call it maturity if you will, but things are changing around the Leiva household. There have been plenty of things I am working through in my mind, and can't wait to tackle them all in the coming months. I'll be sharing them with my New Year's post in just a couple weeks, and hopefully see what everyone else is planning to do with the new year as well.

Finally, I've been waiting for this time since last year. Tomorrow, the Golden Globe nominations will be announced and I can't wait! I love the Golden Globes because they honor both television and movies, both of which I love dearly :)

Here are some of the shows/films I am rooting for and I can't wait to get the final results bright and early tomorrow!

Holiday Crafts

I don't know what it is, but I've been feeling awfully crafty lately. I just want to make thing with my own hands, invest the time and be creative. When our family friends Lucy and Nery announced they were having a baby, I immediately wanted to do something for them. I came up with a baby quilt. While it is obviously a beginner's quilt, I had so much fun picking out the colors and creating the design all on my own. Since I was going home a month from the announcement, I needed to work fast--and they didn't know what they were having. I chose gender-neutral colors in a mint and cream palette, and used a chocolate fleece for the backing. I used different color embroidery floss for each square and tied it all together with a chocolate ribbon binding.

Here is my hubby doing the honor of holding it up to the camera soon before I added the ribbon:

Now that I've taken it home and given it to our friends, I feel like I need to do something else. Today, as I was looking around on blogs, I came across a new one -- GCD Studios. (Thanks, Kipp!)

There, on the front page, is the perfect next craft. Holiday Ornaments!! Not only will they be fun to make, but I can get creative and use them year after year. Here are directions directly off of the GCD Studios blog:

Supplies:
Styrofoam ball
Hot Glue
GCD Studios Papers
Lace

Cut two 1/2-inch x 4.5" paper strips from each paper color and lace.
- Wrap paper and lace strips around ball crossing at center mark on bottom of the styrofoam ball.

- Apply hot glue and ends at top/bottom of the styrofoam ball.
- Repeat in same way with remaining strips

Be sure to check out their blog for plenty of other amazing ideas.

My Style Icons

My sense of fashion is as varied as my interests. I love the girly glamour of the 1950s, yet I also like the edgy style girls like Rihanna can pull off. I guess I would call myself a creatively inspired person-- when I hear a song, see a photograph or check out an outfit I am instantly absorbed into it and zone off with my own interpretation or inspiration.

Here are some of my style inspirations:

Grace Kelly

Audrey Hepburn

Lauren Conrad

Christina Hendricks

Beyonce
